Direct School Admission - Secondary (DSA-Sec)

Framework

Medley Music School has designed a framework to assist students in achieving the specific music requirements of their school of choice through the MOE's DSA-Sec programme.

What is DSA-Sec?

The Direct School Admission - Secondary (DSA-Sec) exercise allows students to seek admission to Secondary 1 based on their talents and achievements.

It also aims to give schools greater flexibility and choice in selecting deserving students, allowing Primary 6 students the opportunity to exhibit their range of achievements and talents.

Primary 6 students can seek admission to certain secondary schools based on their talent in sports, CCAs and specific academic areas.

Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students' aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the school's academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

How is Medley Music School able to help my child get into his/her secondary school of choice through DSA?

Primary 6 students may apply for DSA-Sec based on a wide range of talents, including music.

Your child will need to attain a certain music qualification as specified by the school (i.e. ABRSM Grade 6 practical and theory - with Merit).

With a strategy in place, Medley Music School will do our best to guide your child to attain the necessary certification by the time application for DSA-Sec comes around.

Whilst we endeavour to work towards the music requirements for DSA-Sec for your child, we are unable to guarantee the admission into the school of choice as the school's various factors are beyond our control.

What music certifications and/or other requirements are required to attain for DSA-Sec?

Different schools have different music requirements.

For instance, some schools require an ABRSM Grade 4 certification while other schools require a Grade 6 (with Merit).

On top of music certification, there could be other requirements from the school which may include - while not being limited to - being committed to a Performing Arts CCA (Music) from Year 1 to Year 4, and/or taking on private lessons (not funded by the school) on a chosen instrument from Year 1 to Year 4.

There may be also other commitment requirements such as not being able to transfer to another school upon successful admission to your child's school of choice via DSA.

In addition, for some schools, your child may also be required to pass an audition, for acceptance into the school.

Please visit the schools' individual websites for more information on their requirements.
